Who are you?

Who are you? This is the catch,  you can’t say:

  1. your name
  2. your occupation (including students), or anything else that you spend your time doing
  3. your relationship to others (e.g. I am the daughter of so and so, or I am the friend of so and so)
  4. anything that you own or possess

Your answer has to define who you are from the inside, not with reference to anything external, including other people (or pets!), or how you pass time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am a Spirit-filled woman of God, who has been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not because of my own goodness (because I when I met Him, I was anything but good), but because of His goodness and mercy. I was created, as all people are, for the glory of God, and it is when I am glorifying Him, that I am most fully who I am… the Spirit-filled woman of God… me.

I am a woman of great joy, as is anyone who has been set free from a prison of fear and pain. I walk in that joy at all times, even in the midst of physical pain, because even in the midst of all that pain, I know that it will pass… that there are others who have suffered far more than me… that one day, I will feel no more pain… that in my weakness, His strength is made perfect… This is who I was created to be, and joy is an integral part of who I am, again, not from my own merit, but because this is who God created me to be.

I am forgiven and forgiving. Because I have been forgiven much, I am able to forgive much… There are times when I am extremely angry… when someone hurts me or someone I love… when I see the victims of tragedies… when I see injustice… when I witness sin in me or in someone else… when what is right is called wrong, and what is wrong is called right… But I am able to forgive the men, women and sometimes even children, who commit these sins and atrocities, because I too have sinned and fall far short of God’s glory, and if He forgave my sins, then how can I not forgive the sins of others?

I am loved and loving. Because God loves me, I am a woman of love. I love those who love me back, and I also love those who hate me. I love those who treat me kindly, and I also love those who have hurt me, abused me, rejected me, cursed me and treated me unfairly. I don’t like what they have done to me, but I love the people, not because I’m a great person. Believe me, if you knew me, you would see my flaws, and how I have struggled to love those who have “done me wrong.” I am a woman of love because I am loved by God. Do you know that even when I was in the midst of my deepest, darkest sin, He loved me? Oh, and get this… He didn’t just tolerate me or say He loves me. No, He loves me passionately, knowing what I’ve done, and what’s been done to me. He loves me with a love that is indescribable, and He wooed me with His love, and I couldn’t help myself. He sent His only Son to pay my death penalty for the sins I had committed. I fell head over heals in love with Him, and the funny thing is, the deeper my love for Him grows, the deeper my love for others grows.

In summation, who am I? I am a Spirit-filled, joyful, forgiving and loving woman, because Christ changed me from a spiritless, melancholy, unforgiving and bitter woman when He gave me new life.

Words of Jesus – The Golden Rule

Write a post about anything you’d like — in the style of your favorite blogger. (Be sure to link to them!)
Daily Prompt: Imitation/Flattery

“Do for others what you would like them to do for you. This is a summary of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 7:12 NLT)

God wants us to treat other people like we want to be treated. That’s why Jesus came and carried our burdens, our sins, our pain and our suffering, so that we could be free. Just think what the world would be like if everyone did that… Just think what the world would be like if did that.

Thank You Lord, for showing us how to love and live. And here’s a simple poem…

Have Mercy

Golden Rule
Golden Rule

Be kind to others,
You have said

Burdens of brothers,
For this I bled

Have mercy and love
Let everyone give

This gift from above
While in Me you live.

This “simple poem”  is written for the glory of God, in honor of Deb’s Blog, although it doesn’t do justice to her poetry. This beautiful woman of God writes a “simple poem” every day, while also visiting the blogs of others and offering words of encouragement simply to bless others. I believe this woman lives by the golden rule!

Words of Jesus – Turn the Other Cheek & Love Your Enemies!

“You have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘If an eye is injured, injure the eye of the person who did it. If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the person who did it.’ But I say, don’t resist an evil person! If you are slapped on the right cheek, turn the other, too. If you are ordered to court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow.

“You have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and on the unjust, too.

“If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:38-48 NLT)

This where a real man or woman of God proves their mettle. Do you love Jesus? Give up your rights… That’s a powerful message for the church in America today.

One of the things we do well in this country is defend our rights, and if we believe someone violates those rights, we take them to court. Imagine with me for just a few minutes what it would be like to live in a world where we obeyed Jesus’ commands… and understand this, Jesus wasn’t interested in whether His commands were fair or unfair.

I believe it comes down to love. Do I choose to love the person who takes the credit for something I did? If I do, let him/her have the credit. God knows the truth. Do I choose to love the person who just took the shirt off my back? If I do, then let me get my coat and give that to him/her as well. And what if my boss unjustly demands that I stay and work overtime for an extra hour without overtime pay? If I love him/her, not only will I do it, but I’ll stay as long as it takes to complete the project.

This kind of thinking goes against the grain. It goes against everything we’ve been taught in our lives. Jesus takes everything we’ve ever been taught about what’s fair and just, what’s right and wrong, and He turns it upside down. He tells us to do things that rub us wrong, things that make every hair on the back of our necks stand on end.

He tells us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Love my enemies??? Pray for those who persecute me??? Lord, don’t you even care about my feelings? This doesn’t make a bit of sense!

What about justice? What about right and wrong? How do you love someone who has abused you? How do you love someone who has mortally wounded you? And you’re asking me to pray for someone who has permanently damaged me? You’re asking me to pray for them and not against them? What kind of sense does this make? I don’t understand!

“My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the LORD. “And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT)

Ok Lord, but You just commanded us to be perfect just as my heavenly Father is perfect. Everybody says nobody’s perfect, so how can You tell me to be perfect? Isn’t that impossible?

“Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” (Matthew 19:26 NLT)

Ok Lord, I hear what You’re telling me and I want to believe You, but how can I love my enemies and be perfect like You are? Help me Lord, to see things as You see them, to see people as You see them, and to love them as You love them… I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13 NLT)

Thank You Lord!

URGENT Plea for Prayer – UPDATE

This is an update on the prayer request I posted on November 8, 2012. Evangelist Joy Mifflin went home to be with the Lord at approx. 3:00pm on November 9, 2012. Please take the time out of your busy schedule this week to lift her family and her church family up in prayer, as they grieve the loss of their beloved child, minister, and friend. I truly believe that people can feel when they are being prayed for, and for all of you who do join me in praying for this family, I give you my heartfelt thanks, and one day, when I see you in glory, I will hug each one of you and personally thank you! Many blessings to each of you.

In Christ’s Undying, Holy, Matchless, Amazing Love, I Remain,
Your Sister Cheryl

I’m sending a shout out for all Prayer Warriors to join me in praying for Evangelist Joy Mifflin, an awesome young woman of God, who has been stricken with cancer. Doctors have given up, but her mother and father have not, and they are asking men and women of God to unite together in praying for this beautiful young woman. They are taking her off the respirator tomorrow, so we’re seeking God for a miracle for Joy and for her family in Jesus’ name! Thanks to all who will touch and agree in prayer with me!!!
