“You’re compulsive,” they said.
“You have an irresistible impulse
“To perform some irrational act!”
“Oh God, is it true what they say?”
“Yes, My child. I am sorry to say
“That you, just like they,
“Do compulsively sin.”

“You’re so bossy,” they accused.
“You always take over!”
“Oh Father, that isn’t so,
“Please tell them it’s not!”
“I can’t tell them, My child.
“For since time began, man has tried to take over.
“And you, just like they, have done the same thing.”

“You’re preoccupied, irresponsible!” they charged.
“Oh Precious Lord, is this true too?”
“Yes, My child, you know that it’s true.
“For you, just like they, have lost sight of My Son.
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,
“Even so must the Son of Man be lifted up.
“For My Son, Jesus is the only Way!”

“You said you were a Christian,
“But you’re just a failure!” they judged.
“Oh God, I’m so sorry, it’s true!
“I’ve failed You and sinned against You, my Lord!
“I’m so sorry for this awful compulsion to sin!
“Lord, what can I do to pay for this debt?
“Forgive me Lord, judge me mercifully,” I cried

“You’re guilty, My child,
“Yet I love you so much.
“You’ve already done the only thing that you could.
“You confessed Christ as Lord,
“You confessed to your sin.
“My Son cancelled and paid for your debt
“Go now in peace, for you have been blessed,” said my Lord,

I wrote this in November of 1997, when I was dealing with a painful past, as well as pain inflicted on me by the church. I am so glad that I serve the Lord of the universe, a Righteous and Merciful Judge, and I’m so glad that it is He who has judged me and acquitted me, and not man.
