Lord, Show Me Your Ways

Moses knew Your ways
Others knew only Your acts
Show me Your ways, Lord

Though some walk away
I long for intimacy
Please walk with me, Lord

Let me hear Your voice
I’ll walk in obedience
To Your perfect will

Lord, show me Your ways
And Your greatness I’ll proclaim
How I love You, Lord

Heal Me, Lord Jesus

I was thinking about the post I did a couple of days ago on forgiving, and the Lord reminded me of a poem that I wrote back in 1997 when I began my journey of forgiveness. I pray that it ministers to those of you who may be finding it hard to forgive…

Just when I thought my life was over,
When I thought the pain would never end,
Just when I thought, I just can’t bear it!”
You came and whispered to me,
“Come, you who are weary and heavy burdened…
I will give you rest.”

I knew that I wasn’t worthy.
I knew I’d never deserve it.
I’d seen too much, done too much and suffered too much
To ever receive such an offer
Of healing and love and hope from above,
But all that I needed was faith…
“For we walk by faith, not by sight…”
I live by faith in my Lord, Jesus Christ.

“I’m unclean, no good, different!” I cried,
As my shame and my fear held me hopelessly bound.
“Don’t be afraid,” You spoke,
“You won’t suffer shame.
Don’t fear disgrace, humiliation is not for you.
I’ll make you forget the shame of your youth,”
You promised, and I knew it was true.

I’ve struggled for years with the rage in my heart,
Till You spoke, “Cease from anger…
Don’t fret.”
“Lord, I don’t think that I can.”
“Trust Me, do good…
I will establish your steps…
When you fall, I’m the One who is holding your hand.”

“Lord, the pain if I face it
Could drive me insane,
And the tears, once they’ve started
May never stop.”
“Be still, your tears in My bottle I’ve kept.
A diary I’ve written keeps track of those tears.”

“And if my father and mother forsake me?”
“I’ll take you up.”
“Heal Me, Lord Jesus”
“Forgive them,” You said.
“But they nearly destroyed me!
They used me, abused me!
They blamed me and shamed me!
I can’t forgive them, Lord don’t even ask it!
You know I’m not able, Lord, I just can’t!”

“I’ll help you, My child, and you will be blessed,
For the mercy you give will be paid back in full.”
“Lord, please give me peace,
Let me know that You’re near!”
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything pray,
Give thanks, make your requests known to God.
And His peace which surpasses all comprehension,
Shall guard your heart and your mind through Me,
Christ Jesus, your Lord.”

Show Me Your Ways

He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. (Psalm 103:7 NKJV)

Lord, show me Your ways
I don’t just want to know about Your mighty acts
I want to know Your ways
I want to know You

Show me the way You love
Show me the way You minister
Show me the way You remain steadfast
Show me the way You forgive

Show me the way You give
Show me the way You take
Show me the way You save to the utmost
Show me the way You deliver

Show me the way You heal
Show me the way You listen to the cries of my heart
Show me the way You answer prayer
Show me the way You move

Show me the way You move
Show me the way You abide
Show me the way You see me
Show me the way You see others

Lord, make Your ways known to Cheryl

Words of Jesus – Do Not Break Your Vows

“Again, you have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘Do not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you have made to the Lord.’ But I say, don’t make any vows! If you say, ‘By heaven!’ it is a sacred vow because heaven is God‘s throne. And if you say, ‘By the earth!’ it is a sacred vow because the earth is His footstool. And don’t swear, ‘By Jerusalem!’ for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. Don’t even swear, ‘By my head!’ for you can’t turn one hair white or black. Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Your word is enough. To strengthen your promise with a vow shows that something is wrong.” (Matthew 5:33-37 NLT)

Guilty! This word is for me personally… When I mess up, I mess up big time.

Father forgive me. I know that I’m not supposed to break the vows I’ve made to You, and I knew on Tuesday, when I broke my vow to fast, that I was sinning against You, but I excused my sin. I was hurting, and I can’t take my pain medication on an empty stomach.

While that’s true, the fact is that I could have asked You to remove my pain, and I certainly didn’t need to eat as much as I did. The truth is that I made that vow without even thinking. I certainly didn’t feel You leading me to fast. I just thought it was the right thing to do.

My Lord, for all that I say that I hate religion, could it be that I’ve become religious? Could it be that instead of seeking Your face, I’ve allowed myself to be caught up in traditions and rituals that don’t please You? My Lord, forgive me. Forgive me for following my own ideas rather than being still and waiting for You.

Forgive me for telling You what I think You want to hear, rather than simply waiting for You to tell me. Forgive me Father, for being impulsive and running headlong into things, rather than waiting for You to lead me.

Forgive me Father, because when I make a vow to you that I don’t keep – a vow that You haven’t even asked of me – I become a liar.

Have mercy on me, O God, because of Your unfailing love. Because of Your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my shameful deeds — they haunt me day and night. Against You, and You alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in Your sight. You will be proved right in what You say, and Your judgment against me is just. For I was born a sinner — yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. But You desire honesty from the heart, so You can teach me to be wise in my inmost being. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again; You have broken me — now let me rejoice. Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Do not banish me from Your presence, and don’t take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me again the joy of Your salvation, and make me willing to obey You. Then I will teach Your ways to sinners, and they will return to You. (Psalm 51:1-13 NLT)

Lord, I do love You, and I don’t just want a religion. I want to humble myself under Your mighty right hand. I want to walk with You in the cool of the evening. I want to be a woman after Your own heart. Father, I submit myself to You – please show me Your ways! I want to see You, hear You and touch You.

Father, I won’t vow not to break anymore vows that I’ve made to You. Instead, I ask You, Holy Spirit to guard the gate of my mouth, and help me Lord, not to make anymore vows that You never even asked of me or required of me. Walk with me Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

He Loves Me – I’ve Made My Choice!

My soul magnifies the Lord
And my spirit rejoices in Christ
For on His wings I have soared
“Come fly away with Me,” He enticed

“Come away, My beloved
“My treasure, My bride, beautiful one”
“But I am ugly – unloved!”
I wept as I said, “Lord I’m so undone!”

“I’ve borne your pain on My back
“The rejection and pain you received
“The fear and every attack
“I felt too, as you suffered and grieved”

“And I am always with you
“And My love will never let you go
“I’m here, if only you knew
“And My favor, on you I bestow”

“How can You love me?” I cried
“I’m dirty and ugly! I’ve cheated
“I’ve hurt You and shamed You, sinned and lied!”
“On My cross, it’s completed”

He said and He smiled, “Come dance
“My beloved and sing and rejoice!”
He ravished my heart with just one glance
He loves me – I made my choice!

O God You Are My God…

As I was reading Psalm 63, this song, Sometimes By Step, by the late Rich Mullins began to reverberate in my spirit. Listen to it and be blessed. The prayer beneath the link is my love song to the Lord…

O God, You are my God

And I will always praise You

When I rise in the morning,

It is Your face that I seek

When I lie down at night

It is Your name I breathe

When my heart is filled with longing,

Only Your touch can comfort me

And when I hunger and thirst,

Only You can satisfy me

O God, I will seek You in the sanctuary

And in the quiet of my secret hiding place,

I will find You

When I follow after You,

You will shelter me in the shadow of Your wings

Hiding me, holding me, lifting me, filling me, leading me

You protect me from my foes

And I rejoice in Your presence

You surround me with Your lovingkindness,

And my lips sing Your praises

O God, You are my God

And I will follow You all of my days

O God You Are My God based on Psalm 63

Psalm of Strength

Lord, how can I doubt You?

How can I lose hope?

Why do I feel my prayers never go past the ceiling?

Surely You have seen me.

Surely You’ve heard me!

And though my strength has melted like wax,

And my tears flow like rivers,

Surely You will comfort me!

I have heard and I know

That You never grow tired or weary

You are my strength and my defense.

You alone know my hopes and my dreams –

Only You know my fears and my pain.

You give me power in weakness –

Strength in my time of need.

Even though others may fall by the way

And many turn away,

Still I will wait on You Lord

Till You renew my strength.

And I shall mount up with wings like eagles –

And I shall run and not be weary –

I will walk and never faint!

Psalm of Strength based on Isaiah 40:27-31
